Book 1 – Sands of the Solar Empire

GET THE BRANDY TO BAZZ . . .
That’s all Paymaster Stenstrom, the Lord of Belmont-South Tyrol, has to do and the old warbird Seeker is his. He has dreamed of captaining a Fleet ship his entire life.
Little does Paymaster Stenstrom realize that he is in the grip of an old Vendetta and the short trip to Bazz might very well be his last.
Faced with a dead ship and a lost crew, Paymaster Stenstrom finds help in the strangest places: the thief Marine and the milquetoast young man from the Admiral’s office, and, though he just became acquainted with these two strangers, he discovers they have been influencing each other’s lives for a very long time.
Something sinister hovers over Paymaster Stenstrom and his two new friends, something they are only now becoming aware of. The SANDS OF THE SOLAR EMPIRE stretch out before them in an endless gulf brimming with the unknown. Can a masked Paymaster, a thief, a coward and a once great warbird face what awaits them?
Book 2 – Against the Druries

That’s what they say on Bazz, that the “Deep Sea”, the open space between the two planets, is cursed and full of bad dreams—but nobody ever listens to people from Bazz, do they?
Paymaster Stenstrom, Private Taara and Lord A-Ram struggle to navigate the Seeker, an old warbird, through the shipping lanes to Bazz. If the Paymaster can’t get to Bazz with his cargo of brandy, he loses the ship and will probably end up in jail as well.
Jail? If only . . . The three adventurers are about to discover the old farfetched mariner stories are very real and that the Devil himself waits for the unwary in dark places where there is no help.
The Circle closes in on Stenstrom, Taara and A-Ram, and its judgment for them is far worse than any jail cell. The Seeker is about of become just another ship that set sail from safe shores and was never heard from again, unless . . .
The Belmont Saga concludes in this heartbreaking and action-packed tale of friendship and dedication, of vile evil and hopeless terror, and that sometimes help for those gone astray comes from the most unlikely of places.

Lady Bethany would rather die a spinster than submit to marriage—and thus reveal the horrible secret she has harbored for more than a year Lord Locke is far too immersed in his service to the Crown for romance, but Lady Bethany is in dire circumstances.
Indebted to Bethany’s late father and his close friend, the earl offers a perfect solution for both of them: a marriage in name only.
Perfect, if only they weren’t so irresistibly drawn to each other—and if Bethany hadn’t found herself falling in love with a man even more mysterious than his reputation. Perfect, until she unwittingly learns he’s protecting her  from a threat to her life.
To Mark, Bethany is just another assignment, a woman he’s convinced is hiding something. His offer of marriage was meant only to make it easier to safeguard her.

First lets take a look inside the book

The gentleman turned round to greet Lady Whitton when she approached, and bowed over her offered hand. Then his gaze shifted towards Bethany, who stood barely inside the room, as motionless and stiff as Mr. Drew.
That gaze, a rich, dark blue, pulled Bethany’s feet loose from the floor and lured her to him. Bethany had never seen such irresistible eyes. The earl stood a good head taller than her, his bearing relaxed but dignified. Near-black hair, a firm jaw, a straight, slender nose. Her bold inspection of him seemed to amuse him, his handsome smile framed by deep dimples—bookend parentheses—on either side of a full, engaging mouth.
Bethany heard her mother say, “I’m sorry we’ve kept you waiting, my lord. Lady Bethany had no idea you were here, of course.”
“I don’t mind, Lady Whitton,” the man replied in a rich baritone, those eyes twinkling. Then he added, “It’s not every day a man chooses a bride, and if she’s the right woman, she’s worth waiting for.”
Bethany paused at this baffling declaration, her heart flipping thrice in her chest. The man was gorgeous; he was engaging; he was far too kind. Which made her mind up for her, of course. She could not risk her heart with this man. No matter what, she could not marry him.

The Wrong Side of Magic Book Tour @LovingtheBook

The Wrong Side of Magic Book Tour @LovingtheBook

Hudson Brown stopped believing in magic long ago. That is, until the day he is whisked away to the magical land of Logos by a curious compass given to him by his off-beat neighbor, Charlotte.

Hudson discovers that Logos is a land ruled by words, thoughts, and memories. A fairy might ferry you across the river for the price of one memory. But be sure to look out for snarky unicorns, as they will see through those who are not pure of heart.

Not understanding the many rules of Logos, Hudson is quickly saddled with a troll curse. Charlotte, who, along with her father, was banished from Logos, can help get rid of the curse–but only if he agrees to find the lost Princess of Logos in return.

Janette Rallison/ CJ Hill writes books because writing is much more fun than cleaning bathrooms.  Her avoidance of housework has led her to writing 26 novels that have sold over 1,000,000 print copies and have been on many reading and state lists. Her books are fantasy, sci-fi, and romantic comedy because hey, there is enough angst in real life, but there’s a drastic shortage of humor, romance and hot guys who fight dragons. She lives in Arizona with her husband, kids, and enough cats to classify her as eccentric.

Character Casting

The main characters include two thirteen-year-olds, a pair of snarky Brittish unicorns, and a couple six-foot-tall roaches, so it would be hard to name a complete cast. (I will resist the urge to cast politicians in the role of the roaches, although I really want to.)

Charlotte is a cute redhead, so perhaps Harley Bird would work but as far as Hudson . . . well, I wish Jonathan Taylor Thomas was thirteen and not thirty-five, because he had that sort of mischevious charm that I imagine Hudson to have.

The tyrant king is an easy call. I’d cast Tim Curry, probably because I thought he made such a convincing, animated, and yet likable Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island. (Yes, I do own the movie and can hum along with the songs.)

As far as Charlotte’s father, Aziz Fantasmo, I always imagined him to be a lot like Christopher Lloyd from Back to the Future. He’s just a little bit crazy and a flamboyant dresser.

Snippet

SOMETIMES MAGIC SNEAKS up on a person like a sudden rainstorm, or bad news, or a mugger wearing really quiet shoes. That’s what happened to Hudson Brown. He was an average eighth grader, with average brown hair that usually needed to be cut and average brown eyes that didn’t always pay attention to his teachers. He lived in an average bedroom that needed to be cleaned and had average friends— many of whom also needed to be cleaned.

In short, Hudson was the type who hadn’t believed in magic for years. Truth be told, magic hadn’t believed in Hudson for even longer, but boys are often getting tangled in trouble, and Hudson was no exception. Except his trouble involved trolls, wizards, and several other things that wanted to kill him.

It started with a cat. Many problems do, which is why dogs, mice, and grumpy old men don’t like them.

Debby Montgomery Johnson is a  woman on a mission. In her book, “The Woman Behind the Smile” she shares her  personal experience with a love that turned into betrayal and financial disaster and she removes the mask of shame and shows others how do to the same.

Many of us have something, something we’re hiding, something we’re ashamed of,  something that through no fault of our own or through our own making, something that we keep hidden and that,  in turn, keeps us hidden, from each other and the world.
From Vermont and a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Debby is the President of Benfotiamine.Net, Inc, a vitamin supplement company that provides an alternative for the pain of neuropathy, a nerve disorder.  (Benfotiamine.Net).  Benfotiamine makes an extraordinary difference especially for diabetics and their families.
Her background is diverse, from working as a paralegal and bank branch manager to being a U.S. Air Force officer, serving as an Intelligence Officer at the Pentagon, the Defense Intelligence Agency and in Wiesbaden, Germany.   Debby is just like you. A woman on a mission to live an authentic, joyful life as the Woman WITH the Smile rather than behind it.

How I Lost a Million Dollars on a Dating Service could be the title of this book but “The Woman Behind the Smile” is so much more than a “Catfish” story – a term used to refer to someone who creates a false online persona to reel someone into a romantic relationship. Many people are looking to online dating as a way to get back into real life after the death of a spouse, divorce or a failed relationship. We paint ourselves as the “perfect partner” with a profile that reflects our life’s story, or does it? In “The Woman Behind the Smile”, Debby shows how during much of her life she hid behind the mask of being the perfect wife, mother, Air Force Officer, banker, legal assistant and friend – until life was completely changed by “The Call.” The subsequent rebuilding of her life would include a journey only seen on Lifetime Movie Channel! Like Debby, we all have some hidden stories and like her, it’s now time for us to STAND UP in our power.

REVENGE — It was fifteen years in the making.

James was seventeen when his baby sister was brutally slaughtered in cold blood, all in the name of business. For fifteen years, he couldn’t wash her blood off his hands, or erase the faces of those responsible from his mind. But the time had arrived for James Crowe to claim his throne.
Cora Harris was no stranger to the dark underbelly of the city streets. She’d grown up with the knowledge that, one day, her father’s gunning empire would be hers, whether she wanted it or not. It was family business and she needed to accept that. Then he walked into her tattoo parlor, and the very ground shifted beneath her feet. He enveloped her in his mystery and in the hot flickers of desire in his eyes. He enchanted her, seduced her, and when she submitted, he imprisoned her.
Cora was the key to everything, including his destruction if he wasn’t careful. Nothing in all his planning had prepared him for the quick-witted beauty with her shy smiles and intoxicating lips. But from the moment she entered his life officially, James wanted more than just her infatuation. He wanted her absolute submission to him. Only then could he rip out her father’s heart, even if it meant destroying her in the process.
Need and lust will intermingle in a tangled web of broken promises, betrayal, and the sweet taste of revenge. The dark dance will either bring two warring families together or burn the city to the ground.

book blurb

“Remember, lasses. Through Hope, Faith, and Honor, ye can rule,” were the last words Lady Hope MacAlister’s father spoke before dying. Those very words direct her every action and thought. Sword fighting and leading the men of her clan was second nature to Hope and she has little time for herself or any thoughts of love. Until Aidan MacKerry is captured spying on the clan.

She is beautiful, strong, and quick to pull a sword. But when he kisses her, all thoughts of the lairdship Aidan MacKerry seeks flee his mind. When the enemy continues to undermine Hope, Aidan is determined to aid her—only he didn’t think he’d lose his heart to the Laird of Wild Thistle Keep. When the enemy reveals Aidan’s secret, he must fight for his right to be laird and prove, despite their differences, he loves Hope.

The enemy refuses to back down and continues to threaten not only Hope, but the security of the entire clan. Only together will they be able to save the clan and save their love.

excerpt

She sighed and set her free hand at her waist. “We need to find my sister, not stand her havering.”

Sadness and worry flitted in her gaze. Heartache over her mother he assumed and mayhap a wayward sister. The grief seemed to consume her as they walked and Aidan loathed to see a sad woman—even if it was Laird Hope MacAlister. If she started crying he’d certain flee, for nothing was worse than consoling a woman in tears. But he doubted she’d show such vulnerability to him.

She glanced toward the other caves and then back toward the keep. She gave a frustrated sigh.  Her face soft with desperation to find her sister. She was worried and inside she was fretting and he knew only one way to take a woman’s mind off her troubles.

He stepped toward her and swept her in his arms. Her eyes widened as he descended, slowly so not to make her skittish, but with enough purpose she knew his desire. Her lips parted and her tongue darted out quickly to wet the plump surface. His lips brushed against hers with a soft caress. She gripped his arms and pushed. He kissed her again, slanting his mouth over hers. She stiffened, then her fingers dug into his biceps as her lips relented, accepted his kiss. As a moan escaped her lips, masculine triumph flared and he delved deeper. A sizzling leap of lust cursed through him. God, she felt good in his arms. Aidan ripped his mouth from hers and narrowed his gaze. His chest heaved. His blood sang. Through hooded eyes, he watched her and inhaled the womanly scent about her. Hope’s face was flushed, her eyes glazed. Aidan reached for her again.

With a flick of her wrist, a dirk appeared from its sheath and pressed against his ribs. “You touch me again, and you’re a dead man.”

book blurb

He made her his thrall, but she enthralled him.

The newly-widowed Lady Eadlin of Mercia yearns for an independent life in control of her own destiny, but King Edward of Wessex has other plans. When he commands her to marry again to forge another political alliance, she flees to a convent in Kent. During a Viking raid, Eadlin is captured and taken to the English Danelaw where she is out of the king’s reach, but her life is again controlled by a powerful man.

After one last Viking raid, Jarl Thorolf plans to put down his sword and farm his lands, which he realizes is the only way to achieve long-term peace in England. However, the young defiant novice whom he enslaves is King Edward’s runaway goddaughter and worth a large ransom.

If Eadlin escapes her captor, she risks falling into King Edward’s hands. If she stays, she risks falling in love with the enemy. Captivated by Lady Eadlin, Thorolf must decide whether to protect her or return her to King Edward and prevent war with the Anglo-Saxons. Will he choose peace or love?

excerpt

Eorl Ælberht’s Hall, 909AD

The thatch-roofed wattle and daub hall dominated the surrounding settlement. The largest in the shire, it befitted the seat of an Anglo-Saxon ealdorman with a hundred armed men in his employ and many more farmers serving him who could be called up with the fyrd to defend his land.

In this part of Mercia, he had called on them many times to keep the dreaded Vikings out of the Saxon kingdom.

Inside the hall, a host of men were gathered around the long tables in its centre, or sitting on benches against its walls. On a dais at one end of the hall sat a slender young woman gowned in woad blue, her chestnut-brown hair covered by a matching veil held in place by a gold fillet.

Looking around the hall at her husband’s gathered family and vassals, Lady Eadlin of Mercia raised her hand for quiet. The assembled company slowly acquiesced.

Her voice rang out, clear and commanding.

“Dear friends and family of my late husband, thank you for your good wishes. Eorl Ælberht was an important man and we honour him. As evidence of his esteem, today we welcome a messenger from King Edward of Wessex.”

She nodded in the direction of a hard-faced warrior, indicating that he should add more glory to her husband’s name. “Swidhun?”

The squat, battle-scarred man stood. “I bring greetings from King Edward, who esteemed Eorl Ælberht so greatly he gave his god-daughter, Lady Eadlin, in marriage to him.” He gestured towards Eadlin. “Ælberht was a supreme warrior.” The man raised his drinking horn high. “To Ælberht.”

The hundred-odd men in the hall echoed him.

Swidhun paused until the noise died down before continuing.

“Now the king once more has need of Lady Eadlin and wishes you to bid her farewell as she leaves to take up another role in our king’s service.” He raised his drinking horn again, to toast Eadlin. “To Lady Eadlin.”

A cheer rolled through the room.

Eadlin’s stomach lurched. She gripped the armrests of her ornate wooden chair. Schooling her face to show only interest, she smiled, eyes blank, her mind racing.

He could only want her to seal another alliance with an ealdorman through marriage.

“Well said, Swidhun. Thank you for your kind words,” she said.

Swidhun inclined his head towards her. “We must leave at dawn, Lady Eadlin.”

“So soon?” Her voiced dropped so only Swidhun and a few around him heard.

Face set, his words clipped, he replied, “The king commands it.”

No! Looking around the room, Eadlin forced another smile to hide her fear and anger. Her voice carried across the hall, clear and calm. “I must bid you all good evening and prepare for my departure. I leave you under the capable leadership of the new Eorl, Ældred.” She gave a brief, tight smile at her stepson seated nearby.

Standing, Eadlin paused and smoothed her richly embroidered dress. Nausea threatened her poise. Collecting her fractured thoughts, she turned and made her way to the doorway that led to the darkening evening. She leant down once to whisper to Cenric, a grizzled warrior seated near the opening. “I have need of you.”

The man followed her outside.
